Breaking Barriers: From Immigrant Dreamer to Real Estate Leader
Twenty-six years ago, I took the bold step of moving to the United States, with my heart set on New York City. It was a move that changed the trajectory of my life in ways I could never have imagined. Like so many immigrants, I arrived with dreams, determination, and the desire to create a better future. But nothing about this journey has been easy—it’s been a mix of triumphs, challenges, and countless lessons learned along the way.
In 2010, I was honored with an incredible opportunity: I worked for President Clinton and his foundation for four unforgettable years. It was a career milestone that allowed me to contribute to causes that mattered while soaking in the wisdom of one of the world’s most influential leaders. When I reflect on that time, I think, “How cool is that?” It was an experience that helped shape my vision, drive, and understanding of the world around me.
Now, as a business owner in Jersey City, leading a team of 20 real estate agents and 5 support professionals, I can confidently say that my journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. In fact, I’m on the brink of starting my second business—a media and marketing company. My team has been incredibly successful in delivering marketing services to our clients, and this venture feels like a natural next step.
But as proud as I am of these achievements, I’m also very aware of the unique challenges that come with being a Hispanic immigrant in the New York Metropolitan area. In this competitive and often high-pressure environment, the bar feels higher. I’ve needed to push myself—pursuing higher education, gaining more experience than my peers, and constantly proving myself in a crowded market. But here’s the thing: I thrive on challenges.
I’ve had to work twice as hard to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best in the industry. And today, I work for SERHANT., one of the top real estate brokerages in New York City—something I consider a pinnacle of success in my career. Yet, my journey isn’t just about personal victories. It’s about breaking barriers and setting an example for others who might look like me or come from a similar background.
While the road has been tough, it has also been incredibly rewarding. I’ve been able to grow, adapt, and thrive in a city that challenges the best of us. The lessons I’ve learned and the opportunities I’ve embraced have shaped me into the business leader I am today.
And I wouldn’t change any of it for the world!
